Multi-stage machine polishing that permanently removes swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, water spots, and clear-coat defects — restoring depth, clarity, and gloss to your vehicle’s paint. CCI-certified. Dedicated shop in Peoria Heights.
Paint correction is a multi-stage machine polishing process that permanently removes defects from your vehicle’s clear coat. Using specialized machines, foam and microfiber pads, cutting compounds, and finishing polishes, we level out the microscopic layer where swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, and water spots live — restoring depth, clarity, and gloss to the paint underneath.
It’s the difference between “buffing a car” and actually correcting it. Buffing temporarily fills defects with oils and waxes. Once those wash off, the defects come back. Paint correction removes them.
The key thing to understand: your vehicle’s paint isn’t one layer — it’s a stack of base coat (the color), clear coat (the protective layer on top), and primer underneath. Almost every defect you can see in sunlight lives in the clear coat. Paint correction safely levels a small, measurable amount of that clear coat to remove the defects without compromising the layer underneath. That’s why it requires training, measurement, and the right equipment — done wrong, it can permanently thin or burn through the clear coat.
Done right, it’s the closest thing to brand-new paint a vehicle can get.
Swirl marks, scratches, hazing, water spots, and oxidation don’t just appear — they come from drive-through washes, the wrong towels, road debris, and unprotected paint. Wax won’t remove them. Paint correction does — permanently, by leveling the clear coat back to better than the day you bought it.
Paint correction isn’t “buffing a car.” It’s a measurable process with real consequences if it’s done wrong — too much pressure, the wrong pad, or skipping a step can permanently damage clear coat. Here’s exactly what we do, every time, on every vehicle.
We start with a paint thickness gauge on every panel to confirm we have enough clear coat to safely correct. Then a multi-step hand wash, iron remover, and clay bar to strip embedded contamination — followed by tape-off on trim and badges, and a test spot to confirm the right pad-and-compound combination for your paint.
The cutting stage — where we level the clear coat with compounds and machine polishers to remove defects. Depending on your paint’s condition, this is single-stage or multi-stage, and we measure as we go. Then a finer polish on a softer pad removes any haze or micro-marring left behind, bringing back depth and gloss.
A panel-wipe with IPA strips any polishing oils, so what you’re seeing is the true corrected finish — not a temporary fill. We walk you through every panel under our inspection lights before you take it home, and you get before-and-after photos documented under standardized lighting.
Not every vehicle needs the same correction. We pick the package based on what your paint actually needs — measured with a paint depth gauge, confirmed with a test spot, and reviewed with you before we begin.
Our entry-level paint correction service. Also included complimentary in all ceramic coating packages. Aims to remove up to 60% of paint defects.
Recommended for vehicles with aging paint, swirl marks, or deeper imperfections. Aims to remove up to 80% of paint defects.
Recommended for car enthusiasts looking for a show-room finish. Aims to remove up to 95% of paint defects.
Paint correction restores the finish. A ceramic coating locks it in. Without protection, the swirl marks and water spots will come back the next time the vehicle gets washed improperly — and you’ll be paying for correction again sooner than you’d like.
A coating installed over freshly corrected paint:
Most of our correction clients pair their service with a coating because it’s the only way to protect the work.

This truck didn’t look this good when it rolled off the showroom floor cannot believe the difference. Great job guys.Posted on Google Jayden NeillTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I couldn’t be happier with the work from O’Connor Detailing. They did a two-step paint correction on my truck along with a full ceramic coating, and the results are honestly better than I expected. The paint looks incredibly glossy like it just rolled off the showroom floor, if not better. You can tell they really take their time and care about the details. Every inch of the truck was treated with precision and professionalism. If you’re on the fence about getting paint correction or ceramic coating, I highly recommend going with them. Great communication, high quality work, and results that speak for themselves. Definitely worth it.Posted on Google Conner WielandTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. If your question isn’t here, just ask. We’d rather spend ten minutes on the phone than have you guess.
It depends on the vehicle’s size, the condition of the paint, and the level of correction required. A small sedan with light swirls is a different job than a heavily oxidized full-size truck. We don’t post fixed prices because every vehicle’s paint tells a different story — but every quote we send is itemized and transparent. Send us your details and we’ll have one back to you quickly.
It depends on the level of correction and the size of your vehicle. Lighter enhancements move faster. Heavier multi-stage and show-finish work takes longer. We’ll give you a clear timeline with your quote. We don’t rush jobs — the time it takes is the time it takes to do it properly.
Done correctly, no — correction removes a small, measurable amount of clear coat to level out the defects, but stays well within safe thresholds. That’s exactly why we use a paint depth gauge before we start. Done incorrectly (by the wrong shop, with the wrong pad/compound, or too much pressure), yes — correction can permanently thin or burn through clear coat. This is why training and measurement matter.
The defect removal is permanent — once we’ve leveled the clear coat to remove a swirl mark, that mark is gone. But new defects can absolutely appear if the vehicle isn’t washed and cared for properly afterward. This is why we recommend pairing correction with a ceramic coating and a proper maintenance routine.
It depends how deep. If the scratch hasn’t cut through the clear coat into the base coat (you can usually tell — colored scratches go deeper), we can usually fully remove or significantly reduce it. Scratches into the base coat or primer can’t be polished out — they need touch-up paint or refinishing. Send us a photo and we’ll tell you straight.
Yes — at minimum a light enhancement. A ceramic coating locks in whatever’s underneath it. If you coat over swirl marks and water spots, you’re sealing those defects in for the life of the coating. Every coating we install includes correction as part of the prep.
